News Corp delays Italy channel
December 1, 2009
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has delayed the launch of free Italian channel Cielo as it waits for government authorisation. News Corp disclosed plans for the digital terrestrial channel in November in a move that heats up competition with Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset and state broadcaster RAI.
“Broadcasting will not start on Dec. 1 as planned because as of today the necessary authorisation from the communications ministry has not arrived,” Cielo said in a statement.
