Samsung – Yahoo web TV
January 7, 2009
Samsung and Yahoo have become the latest pairing to announce plans to launch a new web-based service for Samsung-branded TVs in the spring of 2009. Based on Yahoo’s Widget Engine, the service will be available on select 2009 Samsung HDTVs and allow users to interact with a set of “TV Widgets” to complement and enhance the usual TV watching experience. These widgets include content from a range of Yahoo properties including Flickr, Yahoo News and Yahoo Weather along with third-party content from USA Today, YouTube, Showtime and others.
Samsung’s Yahoo Widget Engine TVs will be available in 13 countries in 2009, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.K. and others.
