Test group prepares Hong Kong digital television
October 26, 2007
The group – Hong Kong Digital Terrestrial Television Local Testing Group – is to support both the rollout and testing of digital TV broadcasting technology in Hong Kong, particularly the testing of set-top boxes and digital TV sets, its business development and technology support.
“Our testing can help manufacturers from Hong Kong, the mainland and other countries obtain the voluntary labels issued by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, which will certify the digital TV broadcasting technology of products,” said I Chih- lin, ASTRI’s communications technologies group vice president and group director.
The Hong Kong government has been discussing for years the introduction of digital broadcasting for free-TV operators. The territory’s two terrestrial TV broadcasters – ATV and TVB – will roll out the digital broadcast service by year-end, paving the way for the existing analogue service to be shut off by 2012.
