Alton Towers readies for Bluey rollercoaster with giant portrait

February 25, 2026

The artwork, which measures 20 by 15 metres and took 18 hours to complete, has appeared on the park’s iconic lawn, near CBeebies Land ahead of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! officially opening on March 28th.
Howard Ebison, Vice President of Alton Towers Resort, commented: “Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is all about celebrating energy, play and those everyday moments families love about the show. The Grannies episode is a firm favourite with our guests, so creating a giant Bluey made from more than 11,000 bean cans felt like the perfect way to mark the countdown to opening day. It’s playful, unexpected and unmistakably Bluey – and we can’t wait to welcome families from March 28th to experience the world’s first Bluey coaster right here at Alton Towers Resort.”

Natasha Spence, Events Director, Live Entertainment at BBC Studios, added: “Grannies is an iconic episode of Bluey. We also know that fans associate beans with Bluey and Bingo dressing up as Janet and Rita. Seeing this fantastic on-screen detail brought to life in such an imaginative way, truly celebrates the countdown to the opening of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! at CBeebies Land at Alton Towers Resort. We are delighted to be working with the team at Alton Towers to create the world’s first Bluey coaster for families across the UK to enjoy this spring Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is specifically designed for pre-schoolers and young families who are taken on a journey through Bluey’s Backyard.”

Alongside the new coaster and existing Bluey experiences – including the popular meet-and-greet with Mum (Chilli), Dad (Bandit), Bluey and Bingo and live experience within Big Fun Showtime Alton Towers Resort has announced plans to introduce additional Bluey themed hotel rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel. With these exciting additions, Alton Towers Resort is set to become the ultimate destination for young families and Bluey fans alike.

Bluey is the number one show on CBeebies in the UK and has been streamed over 1 billion times since it launched on BBC iPlayer (Source: Piano Analytics).  The smash-hit series follows Bluey – a lovable, inexhaustible, Blue Heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo.
