South America’s Chile is the latest country to report that Starlink’s Direct-to-Device (D2D) is now available to its cellular users.
“From forests to deserts, customers can now stay connected in the most remote areas with satellite-to-mobile technology,” said the local cellular telco, Entel (Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones SA). “The best customers deserve to stay connected in every corner of Chile. Thanks to our alliance with Starlink, now you can enjoy satellite connection on your cell phone wherever you are.”
The service is currently limited to SMS-type messaging. Entel added: “Currently, this technology is in the testing phase and will continue to evolve constantly during 2025-2026. The services will be enabled progressively, starting with text messaging to continue with internet browsing and, finally, calls. This service covers a large part of the continental and insular Chilean territory (it does not include Chilean Antarctica). It is available in areas without traditional Entel mobile service.”
Entel has some 10.5 million cellular subscribers in Chile with 2G, 3G and 4G LTE coverage.
