Currency challenges and local inflation has meant that DStv subscribers in Zambia will see their fees rise by about 10 per cent, effective April 1st.

The last adjustment to subscription fees took place in September 2017, when they were lowered.

Those currency challenges largely reflect the cost of buying TV programming rights – in dollars – which DStv says has affected operational and programming costs.

Subscription fees will rise for all of the DStv bundles, including DStv Access, DStv Family, DStv Compact, DStv Compact Plus, DStv Premium and DStv Access.

MultiChoice Zambia stresses that over the past 3 years it has tried to stabilise or freeze prices but this isn’t easy when faced with the devaluation of Zambia’s currency. Inflation, at 8.1  per cent also impacts DStv’s cost base, and that it had little option but to raise fees.
