HallasSat-4, owned by Arabsat, will launch on January 23rd, weather permitting, on an Ariane 5 rocket (Flight 247) from Kourou in French Guiana. The satellite itself is a so-called ‘condominium’ joint-enterprise craft with a portion of its payload carrying the Saudi Arabia-controlled ‘Saudi GeoSat-1’ and supplied by the King Abdul Aziz City for Science & Technology.

This twin-mission launch will also carry the a DTH satellite from India, G-Sat 31, which when in position will operate from 48 degrees East location. The Indian-built satellite will replace Insat 4CR which is nearing the end of its operational life.

The HellasSat-4 launch date was confirmed by CEO Christodoulos Protopapas upon a visit to the Cyprus ground space satellite station, part of the Limassol-based Technological University of Cyprus.

HellasSat-4 was built by Lockheed Martin at its Denver facility. Hellas Sat-4, is a giant craft and the largest commercial satellite built by Lockheed Martinb. It was originally expected to be delivered almost a year ago and will be located at 39 degrees East.
