Spain: FTTH nears 6m lines

The development of FTTH is at a formidable speed in Spain. Latest figures from the CNMC reveal that FTTH reached 5.89 million lines in August with the addition of 128,710 lines in the month versus July and 1.6 million against March 2016.
Movistar leads the market with 3.26 million lines, 55.4 per cent of the total, with the remaining 2.62 million divided into its rivals.
FTTH lines overtake DSL lines which experienced a significant reduction of 97,3999 to 5.5 million, down 1.2 million year-on-year. Coaxial fibre (HFC) dropped by 3,206 lines in August to 2.55 million.
Fixed broadband reached 14.06 million lines in Spain, up 4.5 per cent from the same month in 2016. The three largest operators -Movistar, Orange and Vodafone- control over 93.3 per cent of the broadband market with Movistar at the helm with 41.92 per cent, followed by Orange with 28.27 per cent and Vodafone with 23.13 per cent, whereas MasMovil has 2.3 per cent of the lines.
