FOX’s bibical drama, The Faithful: Women of The Bible, premieres on FOX in the US this Easter season.
The six-part series, starring the likes of Minnie Driver (The Beekeeper, Good Will Hunting), Terance Donovan (Burn Notice, CSI), Tom Payne (The Walking Dead, The Physician), Blu Hunt (The Originals, Another Life) and Natacha Karam (The Brave, 9-1-1: Lone Star), will air for three consecutive Sundays from March 22nd, continuing on Marth 29th and concluding on Easter Sunday (April 5th).
At a premiere event during London Screenings, held at The National Gallery on February 25th, Driver took to the stage with fellow cast member to introduce the series.
Driver portrays Sarah – a foundational biblical matriarch in the The Book of Genesis, revered as the wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. Known for her beauty and hospitality, she conceived Isaac at the age of 90, fulfilling God’s promise that she would be a “mother of nations”.
Explaining what drew her to the role, Driver said: “Throughout my career I have been drawn to play women who take big leaps of faith, whether that be romantically, spiritually or morally. Stepping into the role of Sarah required embracing all three and more as Sarah is an extraordinary human having a deeply spiritual experience; she longs to be a mother [and] she loves her husband. She is a woman who hopes and trusts in the immediate. Her path to faith was a really interesting and difficult journey. As with all great storytelling, Sarah’s life and predicament is both relatable and fascinating.”
“It’s a great pleasure and a wonderful time to bring Sarah’s story and the stories of all these remarkable, biblical matriarchs to life. This wonderful show celebrates the lives of these extraordinary women,” concluded Driver.
Speaking in May, Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn, said: “The Faithful follows the Old Testament’s heroic, biblical matriarchs and opens a new lane of storytelling at FOX. This show is the definition of strong, female character-driven storytelling, exploring timeless themes that originated thousands of years ago, yet remain startlingly modern and relatable.”
The show has yet to find a UK broadcaster.
