In 2025, French content was widely distributed on international SvoD platforms, with over 3,000 French titles (movies, short films, TV series) released including 400 series and 40 original creations, according to data presented by export association Unifrance at the opening conference of its Export Days event in Paris.
Global SVoD platforms that acquired French content in 2025 included Criterion Channel, Mubi, Shuder, Curiosity Stream and Disney+. The local ones were BFI Player in UK, MagentaTV in Germany, FilmIn and Movistar+ in Spain, and PBS Masterpiece in the US.
“France remains the top non-English speaking European country on foreign SVoD platforms, with 3.8 per cent of new releases, although it has fallen to sixth place overall due to the the rise of Chinese and South Korean content,” Unifrance reported.
Regarding non-linear TV channels, French content accounted for over 4,000 works, including more than 800 TV series, with fiction, accounting for more than half of the first-runs, documentary and animation, and all seeing significant distribution. The country keeps its place as third largest provider of content on foreign TV channels with a 7 per cent share on first-run broadcasts.
This highlights the “diversity and global reach of French audiovisual production” Unifrance stated, with content performing strongly in markets such as the US, the Netherlands, UK, Sweden, Denmark, Mexico and Poland.
