The Pitch Film Fund open for 2025 entries

June 13, 2024

The Pitch Film Fund has announced that it is open for submissions for its 2025 film fund with entries closing on September 27th.

Now in its 16th year, The Pitch Film Fund is one of the biggest short film funds in the UK, with its annual adaptation challenge to see re-envisioned thousand-year old stories brought to the big screen. Next year’s winners will be recipients of £65,000 funding, plus production support split between the two short films – one comedy, one drama. As well as training and development opportunities for everyone who applies, the Fund offers emerging filmmakers – of any background – the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of everyone from Greta Gerwig (The Chronicles of Narnia) to Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men), in making a film inspired by the The Bible. Entries are now open for the 2025 Award.

Previous winning entries include a diverse range of topics which resonate in modern times with dramas: Our Child – a story about human trafficking and surrogacy; Alice, a story exploring greed and betrayal in celebrity culture; and Five Thousand Stars, a story of food poverty. With comedy winners The Innkeeper – a comedic story of fitting in and homelessness; plus Till Death us Do Part and Jael Drives The Nail – two dark comedies with murder plots.

Luke Walton, Founder, The Pitch, commented: “It’s always a buzz to meet new filmmakers, but it was terrific to see such a range and diverse crowd collected together at BFI Stephen Street for the launch of The Pitch Film Fund 2025.”

Entrants to The Pitch are guided every step of the way, with the opportunity to take part in multiple masterclasses, coaching and a residential workshop weekend for the finalists. They receive detailed feedback so that they can fine-tune their pitches ready for the next level of the selection process. The commissioned filmmakers don’t just receive a funding, but work with The Pitch team to produce their shorts, with story consultants and Pitch production partners, Reel Issues Films, to develop the script. Pre-production of the successfully funded shorts will begin in spring 2025, with principal photography starting that summer, ahead of Global Festival submissions. All of the finalists receive a combination of support, advice, training, experience and feedback.
