Spain: 8TV closes down
October 17, 2023
From David Del Valle in Madrid

8TV, the TV channel that claimed to be the alternative to the pubcaster TV3 in Catalonia, has closed down after 22 years of operation.
The channel was launched in 2001 under the name of City TV, owned by Godo Group. Subsequently, in 2006, it was renamed as 8TV with the aim of being an alternative to TV3.
With audience reaching up to 4 per cent at best, the TV channel was losing both viewers and money. In 2021, Italian entrepreneur Nicola Pedrazzoli bought EDICA, owner and operator of the channel. Over the last two years, the group has lost all financial resources resulting in the closure.
