Avanti Media now Afanti Media
June 13, 2022
After a successful 25 years in producing and broadcasting, Avanti Media, the Cardiff-based production company founded in 1997 by husband-and-wife team Emyr Afan and Mair Afan Davies, has chosen to rebrand to become Afanti Media.
The company, born out of a passion to create ambitious and reputable content from Wales specialising in factual, music, entertainment and events was originally named Avanti as a nod to the family name ‘Afan’ but also because of the Italian meaning for “go forward”.
The change in name to Afanti, marks the start of a new chapter for this thriving independent production company, in part motivated by their return to becoming a fully independent, family business, having bought back their 51% stake from Sky Vision in January 2020.
The company is best known for Songs of Praise (BBC One), the Mobo Music Awards (Channel 5), The Perfect Pitch (Channel 4), Life Drawing Live! With Joe Lycett (BBC Two and BBC Four) Paras: Ready for War (ITV) and Eisteddfod yr Urdd (S4C) and this week, will be producing the inaugural Wales Screen Summit, a media conference showcasing the incredibly rich and diverse productions happening from the nations and regions, as well as tackling some of the TV industry’s biggest issues and threats.
Emyr Afan, CCO and Joint CEO, Afanti Media said: “Breaking new ground, innovation and pushing the boundaries has always been part of our company’s rich DNA, which has survived to this day. Respecting our history and remembering where we came from is extremely important to us, but we are ready for change as we embark on our next exciting chapter.”
Mair Afan Davies, Joint CEO, Afanti Media said: “We are a family run, true Welsh indie who are proud of our roots. As of the 25th July 2022, we will be officially trading as Afanti. More exciting news to be announced soon.”
