Delta Air Lines is reportedly talking to SpaceX about the Elon Musk-backed business providing in-flight connectivity and entertainment for its passengers.
Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian has confirmed that discussions have taken place but has not added more detail.
Delta, based in Atlanta, would have to install suitable Starlink flat-panel antennas onto its aircraft fleet. This might take some time in that Starlink had not yet had its terminals certified for aircraft usage.
The airline operates in excess of 5,400 flights daily to some 333 destinations including long-haul flights not most of the world’s capital cities. It operates three servicing bases outside the US in Amsterdam, Paris and Tokyo.
Delta has a code-sharing agreement with Virgin Atlantic, amongst others.
