Zoom adds live events
October 16, 2020
Video calling app Zoom has announced a system to allow users pay for live, online events and experiences.
Branded ‘OnZoom’, the new spin-off platform is beta launching with live events for fitness, music and art.
Zoom CEO Eric. S. Yuan said partners can expect “added event discovery and monetisation features” for online versions of “traditionally in-person events”.
He added that the company sees the move as “setting the stage for the future of communications”.
“One thing we’ve learned in this challenging time is that remote work does work. The future will be a hybrid of the best in-person and virtual communications,” he said. “We have the platform to support what the world needs – today, tomorrow and well into the future.”
Tickets can be sold for events with up to 1,000 attendees.
