SFR to broadcast 4K World Cup on satellite
May 22, 2018
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
Following the agreement signed last November with TF1 Group, and that integrates TF1 Premium offering, SFR will offer to its SFR Sports subscribers equipped with a compatible TV set a 4K broadcast of all the 28 matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will run on TF1 FTA channels as well as on its Ultra HD channel, TF1 4K. The new TF1 service will be accessible to SFR fibre subscribers but also to dish subscribers to SFR-Sat bouquet. This package has been accessible since December 2017 via the Fransat bouquet offering.
TF1 4K is included into distribution agreements signed with all operators in recent months, but SFR will be the only one to bring the UHD World Cup broadcasts to the whole French territory, and not just to fibre subs.
A recent agreement with Orange covers other events shot in 4K such as the 2019 Rugby World Cup and Formula One Grands Prix.
