TIM accelerates content talks with Mediaset
December 6, 2017
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
The Board of Directors of Italian operator TIM has authorised the continuation of negotiations over a new multi-year agreement on the acquisition of content from broadcaster Mediaset Group.
The agreement would come into force from 2018 with both linear and on-demand channels and will boost the offer of the operator’s TIMVision platform.
TIM customers will be able to access the content (including movies, TV series and sports) via digital STBs, Smart TVs, online or the mobile App.
The operator is negotiating further content agreements with other market players.
The Board also gave the go-ahead to the management to negotiate the acquisition from pay-TV platform Mediaset Premium of the rights on the away matches of the 2017/2018 Series A TIM championship, the 2018 UEFA Champions League and other major international football matches offered by Mediaset Premium. This agreement will replace the current agreement between TIM and Mediaset.
As part of its convergence strategy, TIM recently launched TIM Show, a multimedia premium content offer with music, video games, TV series and news available to mobile users at no extra cost.
