French pay-TV broadcaster Canal+, broadcast services specialist Euromedia and audiovisual technologist Dolby used the occasion of the final of France’s Top14 rugby union tournament held in Barcelona between RC Toulon and Racing 92 on June 24th to carry out the first Ultra HD live sports broadcast with Dolby Atmos sound.
According to the participants, the Dolby Atmos sound filled the room and travel through the air with breath-taking realism giving a unique entertainment experience.
Originally designed for the cinema, Dolby Atmos sound allows sport a more immersive experience with realistic stadium atmosphere sound, the referee’s comments and the actions on the pitch. Those Canal+ subscribers with Orange’s fibre service were able to benefit from the broadcast thanks to the latest Livebox.
