iPlayer requests first dip, comedy firsts
May 14, 2015
There were 278 million requests to BBC iPlayer in March, with a daily average of nine million, marking a seven per cent drop on the same period last year.
The decline came despite hit shows such as Top Gear (which still has episodes available for now) and The Voice, and contrasts with strong online video statistics at other media companies.
Meanwhile iPlayer will launch six new comedy pilots as part of the BBC Comedy Feeds. Now in their fourth year, the Comedy Feeds exist to provide a platform for new and emerging comedy talent to showcase their work.
The Comedy Feeds are part of an on-going BBC Comedy, BBC Three and BBC Academy initiative to develop the next generation of comedy talent, both on- and off-screen.
