TopTV to appeal ‘adult’ TV ban

South Africa’s On Digital Media, which until recently traded as TopTV but is now – in effect – owned by China Times Group’s StarSat, is to appeal an order which prohibits transmissions of adult TV channels. ODM/StarSat is broadcasting three channels including Playboy TV.
ODM/StarSat says the hearing will be before Judge Lee Bozalek on December 5 in the Western Cape High Court in Cape Town.
Judge Bozalek has already determined that South Africa’s media regulator ICASA must review its decision to issue licences covering the three channels (Playboy TV, Desire TV and Brazzers).
Various public interest groups have lobbied against the issuing of the licences.
