Philippines: Ayala group to offer pay-TV service
January 8, 2014
The Ayala group is venturing into the broadcast business, as an affiliate of Globe Telecom sought regulatory clearance to offer pay-TV service in key cities in the Philippines.
In a filing with the National Telecommunications Commission, Altimax Broadcasting is asking for a certificate of public convenience to install, operate and maintain digital UHF pay-TV broadcast stations in several urban areas, namely Metro Manila, Antipolo City, Tacloban City, Cagayan de Oro City, Davao City, Iloilo City, Iligan City, Naga City, Dagupan City, Cebu City, Baguio City and General Santos City.
The Ayala-led telco’s pay-TV bid would pit it against industry leader SkyCable of the Lopez group and rival Cignal TV of the PLDT group.
The company said it intends to use Channel 19 as its single frequency network.
