Appear TV cable head-end for India DSO
June 18, 2013
Appear TV, a leading global provider of next-generation head-ends for broadcast and IP television, today announced that it has designed and is to launch a cable head-end to specifically meet the technical and business issues faced by India’s cable operators that are mandated to switch from analogue to digital.
The cable dedicated head-end will be marketed to India’s cable operators directly and through the Appear TV network of India-based business partners, with post-sales support provided by its in-country service centre in Delhi.
“This head-end is designed from the ground-up to make life as simple as possible for India’s cable operators and do it at a fixed cost per channel and yet with the latest cutting-edge technologies,” said Carl Walter Holst, CEO, Appear TV. “We are able to do this through the combination of our in-depth understanding of the technical problems facing India’s cable operators and our inherently flexible head-end philosophy. For instance by designing new units for the digital encoding of analogue signals when received via STBs we’re able to strip out the costs of analogue-digital converters and provide MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 compression capability.”
