TF1 considering SVOD service
January 11, 2013
French broadcaster TF1 is considering launching a subscription-VoD service. CEO Nonce Paolini said that a subscription-VoD service was one of several projects TF1 was considering. According to French newspaper Les Echos, Paolini also said the possible revival of discussions last year to form a partnership with rival broadcaster M6 for an SVOD service was “an interesting idea”.
Amazon, owner of UK-based Lovefilm, is tipped to launch an SVOD service in France this March, while AB Group aims to launch its service next month with a monthly fee of €6.99.
The 36 month window between cinema release and VoD release in France could prove problematic when attempting to make SVOD enticing in the country.
