Australia’s iiNet eyes 2010 launch for IPTV
August 18, 2009
Australian Internet service provider iiNet has revealed that it is planning
to launch an IPTV service shortly, with introduction in the first half of
next year deemed most likely.
“It will probably be in the first half of next year,” said Michael Malone,
Managing Director of iiNet. “We are still playing around with our own
set-top box and looking at a couple of others. The market is changing very
fast. You can now get TVs with integrated 500 GB hard drives. We want to
get a box at the right price point that does the basic functions like
recording and time shifting and that does integrated IPTV as well, and I
think that is about six months away.”
The company claims an 8% share of the Australian broadband market,
reporting 215,600 on-network broadband customers and 205,400 off-network
customers by the end of June.
