UltraViolet set for UK debut

The UK is to become the second territory after the US to deploy UltraViolet, the technology that bridges a single piece of content to a variety of devices.
The first US movie title to be released physically with UltraViolet digital ownership rights – Horrible Bosses – went on retail sale October 11 in the US, and comes to the UK Boxing Day (December 26) with the release of Warner Bros.’ Final Destination 5.
Chris Law, Managing Director, International TV and Digital Distribution, UK and Eire at Warner Bros Entertainment UK, said that by making Final Destination 5 and all future WB theatrical new release titles UV enabled, the company was offering consumers a simple and more compelling way to purchase, manage, access and share their movie collections digitally. “This is just the first step, I’m confident we’ll be seeing more and more compatible content and services launching in the coming months,” he added.
Under the UltraViolet system, home movie purchases are recorded on an online account. Users will then be able to access those movies on other computers, Web-connected TVs, tablet computers and smartphones.
