BBC Worldwide’s Amanda Hill, MD of its BBC Earth and Walking with Dinosaurs projects, says BBC Worldwide is firmly behind 3D-TV for natural history factual and documentary programming. 

Speaking at Panasonic’s 2011 Convention in London, she said: “Innovation has always driven natural history forwards, 3D is the next stage…There’s a proven business model for 3D film – TV will follow. We’re investing now in future content.”

Walking with Dinosaurs has a £40m (€47.6m) budget (and produced with Evergreen Films), while another BBC-backed project Africa 3D is funded to £15m (and is a co-production with India’s Reliance Big Entertainment).

Another BBC theatrical project in 3D is Life, already in post-production, will be released later this year. Hill said that the BBC had a total of eight 3D projects in various stages of development.
