YouTube chief: ‘Publishers must get on connected TV’
January 21, 2011
Publishers must get their content onto connected TVs “before it’s too late”, says former YouView chief technology officer Anthony Rose. Talking to the Association of Online Publishers he said, “In this matter, you can’t be too early, if you wait too long, all the good territory will have been staked out and taken.”
He predicted that in six months time, all new TVs will be connected and warned that TV and device manufacturers are starting to act like the “commanding chiefs” and the gatekeepers for watching catch-up TV on the big screen.
He also referred to Google TV as a a “disruptive play” but called it “a big failure – the user proposition is all wrong”, because people aren’t going to want to search for content on their TV screen using a big keypad.
