Canadian satellite operator Telesat says it will have its first pair of Lightspeed low Earth orbiting satellites in orbit by the end of 2026. A total of 96 will then be launched during early 2027 to start a global broadband service. This first pair will test the system and validate the concept.
Telesat has booked 14 SpaceX launches to get its constellation into orbit with each rocket carrying about 18 satellites.
Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg said that the operator should have a complete fleet in orbit, comprising 156 satellites, in orbit by December 2027. The system should supply 10 Tb/s of capacity.
Goldberg also announced its quarterly revenues (to September 30th) of C$101 million (€62.2m) a fall of 27 per cent y-o-y. Telesat is backing Lightspeed for its future business prospects as DTH revenues fall.
