BBC, Creative Wales launch factual development fund
October 9, 2025

BBC Wales, BBC Network, and Creative Wales have partnered to fund the development of a major new factual entertainment series. Production companies with a substantive base in Wales are invited to pitch ideas that celebrate Welsh creativity while delivering entertainment to audiences across the UK.
The BBC is looking for a returnable format, that unites and captivates audiences. Whether live, studio-based, or built around a compelling narrative. This opportunity will showcase ideas that are authentically Welsh whether that’s through portrayal, location, voices or production infrastructure, the BBC and Creative Wales want ideas that could only be born in Wales but have the power to travel far beyond it reaching audiences across the UK.
Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning BBC Cymru Wales, commented: “We’re looking for an ambitious, returnable format, that surprises, unites, and captivates. Whether live, studio-based, or built around a compelling narrative arc, your idea should reflect the humour, heart, and imagination that make Wales so unique but will appeal to audiences across the UK. Think big. Think distinctive.”
Michael Jochnowitz, Editor of Unscripted (Interim) at the BBC, said: “We are really looking forward to working with outstanding Welsh creative talent to land the next big Factual Entertainment idea. We’re looking for bold, fresh approaches to competitive formats; and can’t wait to see what originality and flair comes from Wales.”
Joedi Langley, Interim Deputy Director of Creative Wales, added: “We are proud to be partnering with BBC Wales and BBC Network on this fund which will support our talented Welsh indies to develop new ideas for factual entertainment series and help secure commissions. Developing industry skills is a major priority for Creative Wales and the Welsh Government more broadly, and we look forward to this fund helping to grow the Welsh skills and talent base for factual entertainment, while also showcasing Wales, Welsh talent and Welsh culture to audiences across the UK and beyond.”
A timetable and details about how to pitch will be published soon.
