Movistar Plus sees highest pay-TV subs growth since 2018

Spain’s Movistar Plus has reported a 66,000 gain in pay-TV subscribers in the first quarter 0f 2025 – being its highest growth in customers since 2018 – and reaching a total of 3,586,000 subscribers as of March 31st.
The platform added 7,000 pay-TV subscribers in Q1 2024; 22,000 in Q2 2024; 49,000 in Q3 2024 and 16,000 in Q4 2024.
With a recent management shake-up, Telefónica aims to turn Movistar Plus into an integrated platform with a vast sports and entertainment offering along with integrated OTT services such as Apple TV+, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, SkyShowtime and Max as well as local players Atresplayer and Mitele. It also relaunched its own OTT service, Movistar Plus+, priced as €14 a month.
Movistar Plus has the highest ARPU in Spain at an average of €90.70 a month. By contrast, Vodafone and MasOrange have an ARPU of around €50 with a customer base of 1.4 million and 2.3 million, respectively.
