SpaceX’s Shotwell worth $1.2bn
April 8, 2025
Gwynne Shotwell has been with SpaceX for the past 23 years, and became president and chief operating officer in 2008. She also holds a 0.3 per cent stake in the company. She was SpaceX’s employee number 11 and the shareholding has been largely accumulated through stock compensation awards.
Forbes magazine says that her shareholding is now worth some $1.2 billion (€1.1bn) based on the company’s December 2024 valuation when SpaceX hit $350 billion with a sale of so-called ‘insider’ shares. The recent downturn in Musk’s fortunes are highly visible in his Tesla business, but SpaceX is a privately-held company so placing a value on Shotwell’s current stake is tough at the moment.
Morgan Stanley estimates Starlink achieved an operating profit of $900 million in 2024 on $9.3 billion in revenue.
According to Forbes and its famous ‘rich lists’, Shotwell has a high status. She is #25 on its list of the ‘Most Powerful Women’ in the world.
