A survey from Hub Entertainment Research finds that consumers are increasingly aware of 8K TVs. Their buying intentions are also trending upward. The data is part of the company’s fourth annual Connected Home study, which surveyed 5,204 US consumers in February 2022.
The Hub report says that 4K TVs and smart home devices have now achieved around a 50 per cent home penetration level.
The survey also found that 52 per cent own a 4K TV, and 67 per cent say they have watched 4K content. Just 8 per cent said they owned an 8K TV, up 1 per cent from the prior year.
Among the additional findings were that 76 per cent of US households own a smart TV and that 64 per cent of these households streamed on this device in the last month. Of all the TVs in the home, 57 per cent are now connected, up from 45 per cent in 2020.
Hub also asked about buying intentions for 8K sets, and the response was that 14 per cent were “very likely” to buy an 8K set in the next 12 months. This is up from a 10 per cent response to the same question asked a year ago.
