Ethiopia links with China for satellite

Ethiopia will order a joint-venture satellite with China for communications and broadcasting.
The agreement was signed on May 27th at an event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. Dr Solomon Belay, Director General of Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute, signed on behalf of Ethiopia and Han Chinping, Deputy President of the Chinese Rocket Company.
The satellite will be the second from the Ethiopian Institute according to officials from the country’s Ministry of Innovation & Technology.
However, the news seems to echo an earlier commitment which also talked of co-operation with China and which talked of a launch this coming September 2019, and which seems not to be underway. What is in progress is a scientific mission (ETRSS-1) which is scheduled for launch in November 2019.
