South Africa’s Openview free-to-air digital platform says it has now activated more than 1.57 million receivers, and is activating new viewers at the rate of some 35,000 boxes a month.
Openview is majority held (67.7 per cent) by eMedia Holdings, an independent South African broadcaster.
In its annual results eMedia Holdings (to March 31st) Openview reported that the business is still losing money. Openview (including the e.tv multi-channel business) earned ad-revenues of Rand 131.8-million and incurred content costs of R255.7 million, up from R173.6 million in 2018, it said.
EMedia also broadcasts e-tv and news channel eNCA. The group ended the year with a profit from continuing operations of R117.6 million, compared to a loss in 2018 of R1.6 billion.
