From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish TV groups RTVE, Mediaset and Atresmedia have joined forces to launch a HbbTV platform with content from all three partners.
The platform, open to other DTT operators, aims to offer FTA content “to improve the diversity, quality and the user experience of FTA TV through services and functionalities thanks to the HbbTV technology” according to a joint statement. It will aim to take on the likes of Netflix and HBO in the country.
In a later phase, the platform will become an OTT service with a range of services, according to the partners.
It is the first time these operators have entered into an alliance.
