Suitors circle Lionsgate
January 19, 2018
A number of potential suitors are eyeing US entertainment studio Lionsgate, according to reports originating in Deadline.
Lionsgate is the producer of blockbuster franchises including The Hunger Games series as well as hit TV series including Mad Men and Orange is the New Black.
Lionsgate purchased premium channel Starz in 2016 for $4.4 billion, a deal that also made John Malone a major shareholder, which has also added to the speculation that a transaction could be in the works.
Amazon, Viacom and CBS have been named as string candidates for a takeover, along with Charter Communications.
Lionsgate stock jumped nearly 7 per cent to an all-time high following the takeover speculation.
