Canal+ Group’s SVoD platform Canalplay lost around 91,000 subscribers in France in the first half of 2016. On June 30^th, the service has 614,000 subscribers against 705,000 for the same period last year – a near15 per cent decrease.

Canalplay, whose results would previously compensate the subscription losses linked to pay TV Canal+ channel and Canalsat bouquet, now has to compete with Netflix as well as SFR’s new Vice service. Since Vice’s launch, Canalplay is no longer carried by SFR.
