Spain’s TVE launches HbbTV red button
September 6, 2013
From David Del Valle in Madrid
The Spanish public broadcaster TVE is launching a VoD service using the HbbTV standard. The service, branded Boton Rojo (“red button”), distributes over 90,000 hours of content (news, sports, children programming) combining the TVE’s website content with some extra content.
To gain access to the service, users will have to press a red button on the remote control to watch the content on a Smart TV. TVE estimates that one million homes will have access to the VoD content.
Ricardo Villa, director of TVE Interactive, said that “we have joined the best of our online service with the best of TV to bring it to everybody and to every screen”.
