Doctor Who sets DVR record
May 19, 2011
The first episode of this year’s Doctor Who, entitled ‘The Impossible Astronaut’, has set a DVR record.
Kantar Media’s analysis of BARB data – the official UK TV ratings – shows that the episode was the most recorded TV event of all time. A combination of an incredibly warm Easter Saturday and an unusually early start to the show saw record-breaking numbers turn to recording devices. Whilst 8.9 million viewers in total saw the show on TV, another 4.1 million viewers chose to ‘time shift’ the show by watching a recording of it later that day or the following week.
The figure easily beat the previous record holder, the 2010 Christmas day episode of Come Fly With Me that 3.29 million viewers saved to DVR.
