TV technology specialists NDS says it now has more than 45 million active encryption smart cards in Latin America. Enzio Sanchez, NDS sales director for the region, says new agreements and extensions signed in the past 3 months, including a contract renewal with DirecTV, means that the region is now one of the main markets for NDS.
Sanchez said the challenge to be faced by the Latin American pay-TV industry will be the broadcaster’s ability to offer “their clients more interactivity options through hybrid boxes, while keeping competitive and accessible packages”.
Additionally, he pointed out that NDS’ conditional access had not suffered any piracy problems for the past 11 years.
