The addition of HDTV channels and PVR capabilities are giving a new boost to Spain’s digital satellite platform Digital Plus.
As a whole, the company added 29,468 new clients in January in comparison with a loss of over 15,000 subscribers the same period last year. Out of the total growth, 10,662 new subs are to the satellite pay-TV platform, with the remaining 18,806 subscribers being captured via the distribution of its premium channel Canal Plus through other platforms like Telecable, Orange or ONO. Now Canal+ Liga has 912, 453 subscribers. Digital Plus’ ARPU stands at €41.64, slightly more than one year ago, €41.49.
For Prisa TV, behind the growth is the iplus PVR along with the addition of new services, including HDTV. At the present time, the iplus is already present in 319,381 households, representing 18 per cent of the subscriber base. Other applications, like the iPhone and iPad are also having an impact with over 167,000 downloads, 56,000 logging in through their PC.
