BBC multi-platform audience measurement
November 26, 2010
The BBC is to introduce a new audience measurement system across all platforms including BBC iPlayer and HD for seven days after transmission. Live Plus 7, will run alongside the traditional measurement of ‘overnight’ linear audience figures. The BBC will begin revealing figures based on the Live Plus 7 measurements next year.
“We know viewing habits are changing and we’re changing with them. As our content becomes available in more ways than ever before, traditional methods of overnight measurement are now just one part of the picture. The new Live Plus 7 system will allow us to look at the total impact of a show and use this insight to continue creating the programmes our audiences want to see,” said Jana Bennett, director of BBC Vision.
The BBC said that its portfolio of channels had grown its share of the total UK audience to 33.1 per cent, up half a point on last year, with a total reach of 85.5 per cent of the UK population each week, up from 84.7 per cent.
