3D TV must pay
September 11, 2009
From Colin Mann in Amsterdam
Fox Sports chairman David Hill told IBC broadcasters will not invest in 3D until they know there will be a pay back and warned that, typically, whatever spend was budgeted to implement 3D the reality was likely to be 10 times as high.
Hill pointed out that as a broadcaster it had been impossible for him to go to advertisers seeking an increase in rates to cover the additional costs of HD. "HD cost us all a fortune, not just in all our trucks, but our internal infrastructure. We're not a public service broadcaster." He could see the same thing again with 3D.
