The new would-be broadcasters have applied for digital TV licences in Kenya. The three intend to broadcast free-to-air signals on the country’s newly-established digital frequencies.

Acme Communications, Number One TV and Global Konnect are the three players and are already in receipt of temporary permits which require transmissions to start within 30 days from January 20th.

These three new entrants bring the number of free-to-view licenses issued by Kenya’s Communications Authority to 38.

However, there is still digital turmoil in the country given that the regulator has revoked three licenses where the owners have been accused of running a TV infomercial advising consumers against purchasing GOtv and StarTimes set-top boxes and implying that the two pay-TV broadcasters are carrying their content without consent.
