Google set to unveil Android STB
June 25, 2014
Google is expected to unveil a set-top box during its developer conference on June 26th, according to WSJ.
The streaming device will be similar to the likes of Roku, Amazon’s Fire TV and Apple’s Apple TV.
The set-top box will be powered by Google’s new Android TV software designed to play movies, games and other content on television. However, the device will carry another company’s brand name, the report said.
This is another TV foray for Google which has tried before to join the OTT big hitters but has struggled to gain support from content providers, although its Chromecast dongle has been well received and is building its content portfolio.
