France steps up DTT expansion

France's broadcasting watchdog, the Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel (CSA), has revealed the opening dates for 77 new transmitters which will be used for digital terrestrial television (DTT) broadcasts. The sites will come into service between November 30th and 19th December 2008.
According to the CSA, the pace of DTT deployment of has stepped up a gear. These 77 new areas complement the 55 already brought into service in 2008. By the end of 2008, DTT will serve nearly 53 million inhabitants, some 87 per cent of the metropolitan population.
