Mexico is to auction digital terrestrial frequencies, and part of the package could create bandwidth for two new national networks.

Some 93 per cent of the population will get the new signals, spread across 153 cities and towns. The past two years has seen some confusion over the DTT auction plan, which was suspended back in January for a re-think of the terms and conditions.

Now the Federal Telecoms Commission has given the go-ahead with the actual licenses awarded about 18 months from now. Full details of the process have yet to be revealed, but the Commission says it wants to encourage broadcasting diversity.
