Coimisiún na Meán joins WorldDAB

Coimisiún na Meán has become a member of WorldDAB – the global industry forum for Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+) radio. This comes following the announcement in 2025 that An Coimisiún supported a new DAB+ trial in Ireland, which began in April 2025.
Membership of WorldDAB will allow An Coimisiún to share experiences and best practices with other regulators, broadcasters, and DAB service providers worldwide while Ireland’s DAB+ trial continues.
Aoife MacEvilly, Broadcasting and Video-on-Demand Commissioner at Coimisiún na Meán, commented: “Coimisiún na Meán supports creativity and innovation in the radio sector. DAB+ offers opportunities to enhance radio’s accessibility and the diversity and relevance of its content for Irish audiences. We are delighted to have become members of WorldDAB at this exciting time for radio broadcasting in Ireland, and look forward to exploring the potential for DAB as a complimentary platform for terrestrial radio.”
As part of the first DAB+ trial in Ireland in 2025, An Coimisiún approved content provision contracts for 23 broadcast services, offering a variety of new music services and new speech programming including social affairs, sports, Irish language, youth interest and children’s entertainment.
