Arvet’s Theatre of War picked up by Norse Key
October 14, 2025
Finnish film sales outfit Norse Key Studios has secured world sales rights to Theatre of War, the limited drama series from Arvet. The company will launch pre-sales at upcoming international markets including MIA and MIP.
Based on the award-winning novel Skymning 41 (Dusk 41) by internationally renowned Finland-Swedish author Kjell Westö, Theatre of War is set against the backdrop of World War II. The four-part series combines Nordic history with universal themes of war, romance, propaganda, and resilience, brought to life by a stellar cast from the UK, Germany, and the Nordics. Filming will take place in Tampere, Helsinki and northern Sweden.
Commissioned by YLE’s Swedish-language channel, veteran director Ulrika Bengts is attached. Magnus Bimberg (Whiskey On The Rocks) joins as Executive Producer.
“We are excited to bring this powerful and timely series to the international market,” said Maria Kivinen of Norse Key Studios. “Theatre of War is a prestige drama rooted in Nordic history, yet with themes that will resonate far beyond.”
“I am thrilled that Norse Key will lead sales on Theatre of War, and that it is a Nordic-based sales outfit – this aligns with Arvet’s core business model of pan-Nordic partnerships,” added Grace Maharaj, Producer at Arvet. “Although set in WWII, its themes resonate sharply today. From the current perspective, it speaks to both historical memory and the current geo-political climate as well as our collective human experience.”
With its mix of history, human drama, a love-story and high-end storytelling, Theatre of War is positioned as a standout series for international buyers seeking prestige content with global resonance.
