Spanish telco Telefónica has announced plans to intensify FTTH deployments in Latin America, replicating the Spanish model, during a meeting with investors in London.

The head of Global Networks, Enrique Blanco, has said that the company will now focus on Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Colombia in deploying FTTH networks once the deployment in Spain is complete. Telefónica has already covered 46 million homes and is ready to offer speeds of up to 1Gbps. The company is also willing to use XGSPON technology in the future with speeds of up to  10 Gbps or 25G-PON, with up to 25 Gbps.

Financial Director, Laura Abasolo, said that most of the FTTH outlays in Spain have already been completed, reducing the investment this year to 15 per cent over sales versus 16 and 17 per cent in 2017 and 2016, respectively.
